About Comic_Jo

Living in the outback has its challenges but it can also be fun. I live and work in Cunnamulla where I teacher art to kids and make art myself. You will find these two domains linked - teaching and art.

Developing Travel Section on the Zazzle Webstore

Are you thinking of coming to Cunnamulla for the River Lights Festival?

This clock is just one of the many travel items in the Travel Collection on the True Gusto Store

Many designs are based on the Warrego River or have been taken from the Hot Springs while looking over the river. However, many spots around town afford awesome photo opportunities.

Shot Glass Store – Growing Daily.

I have enjoyed researching, refining, and illustrating sayings to print onto shot glasses. The idea is to liven up parties and create conversation starters. Please feel free to send in your suggestions. You can buy these shot glasses at the True Gusto Store

Growing old can be a time of fear, loss and worry. Or it can be when artists settle down to capitalise on their prior learning. Enjoy!

Having Fun

Do you ever go to a party and run out of things to talk about? These shot glasses will do the trick. They have conversation starters on them that will liven up even the most dull affair.

The Home and Decor Section of True Gusto has a whole range of shot glasses with sayings. I intend to separate them out into a shop of their own. In the meantime, have a look and see what is coming uo. https://www.zazzle.com.au/collections/inspirational_quotes_and_sayings-119724039783887473

If you’re looking to spice up your parties, introducing conversation-starting shot glasses can be a fun way to get people talking. By placing these shot glasses around and encouraging guests to use them, you can prompt engaging conversations and create a lively atmosphere.

My Collections

The products I design are inspired by Cunnamulla, the Warrego River and all things related to this unique Tourist Destination.

At night, birds flock to the banks of the Warrego. White cockatoos flock to the trees and they can be heard screeching loudly. In the dusk, the river teams with life of various kinds.

Check out these fantastic travel and gift cards from Cunnamulla! Whether exploring the Australian Outback or embarking on a new adventure, these cards are the perfect way to share your travels with the world. With unique designs and high-quality printing, they make for a special gift or a personal keepsake. Explore the collection and find the perfect card to capture your memories.

Colour, Fun and Simplicity

Today I am launching my new shop. The products are made from my art. I am enjoying the experience, and I hope you enjoy the work too! I found the process extremely easy and now I intend to venture into other spaces such as Amazon Merch and Tee Republic.

This bedspread amazes me. I am surprised at how easy it was to make such a fun item. This comforter will brighten up any bedroom. I like it so much I would happily hang it on my wall.

Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.
Signed on the front.

This canvas can hang on the wall or sit on the table. It is intended to capture the warmth and energy that comes with the growth of sunflowers, and the activity of the insects that are attracted to them. I surround myself with beauty so as to nurture my own energy. I draw on the warmth of the sun.

MDF Board was painted with acrylic paint and varnish.

Elance “start-up” competition

This is an explanation of the resources we have already created for the project we are putting forward for the Elance “start-up” competition. Until now this project has operated under the name of Global Citizens Art. When I tried to register this name and procure a website address, I could not get one with clear ownership. True Gusto was available and symbolized the relish with which I hope our plays, animations, and games both online and off are received. The arts based business is now registered in Australia with the domain name http://true-gusto.com

Global Citizens Art with all of its resources also still exists – below please find a table with a list of our resources.  It will be updated regularly as these resources grow.

True Gusto is the parent company of Global Citizens Art the text book designed to bring the teaching of Language and the Arts as Language together.

Basis of an Understanding

Basis of an Understanding

This eBook will soon be released as a print on demand.  It will also have workbooks released to provide practical application of the concepts described.  In this book, I talk extensively of CODE and set the scene for a thorough exploration of the idea of codification.  I explain how codes evolve and how students can learn to be code breakers and creators.

Codification

Codification

Virtual and Traditional Jigsaws in the Classroom  (and Hindi Translation by Usher of Elance) This book explores the nature of co-operative project based classrooms. The idea of codification and gamification are explored.  A scenario for teaching students HTML is laid out in a plain and simple style.  Co-operative project based classroom environments are explained.

A professional understanding of Gamification. (Description in Elance competition entry.) The Transmedia project will render phonetics fun and attractive through gamification designed to draw the children and other learners into the system.  The image to the right is made from tiles.  These tiles will be turned into playing cards and a gaming app.

Transmedia Approach

We have begun an approach by linking FRASB, Suite101.com..sample 1 / sample 2 and Wizzley.  We have a Suite called Creative Arts Leadership and another called Becoming a Freelancer, while Anita Saran’s Flash Fiction Suite provides guidance through workshop opportunities.  Here is an example of the connections made between these spaces and Elance. What Ever Goes Around Comes Around this is a poem that has been put to music  WHAT EVER GOES AROUND by an Elance Professional Catherine Smart.

The Play Elf Talking to Sanata

We have a play that needs adapting – repurposing and songs co-authored and co-participatory stories written on Elance.

What's Happening?

I have everything ready, but need the funding to draw the project together with Elance professionals.

We want to stage the play on Nauru or if this is not possible in Fiji  We also want to develop the play through scripting animation via Elance Professionals.  We will be looking for venture capital to develop and market the animation.  This is to fund future Transmedia Projects.

I have the necessary qualifications, experience and motivation to run this project and may well be on Nauru for the remainder of the year.   I already have good working relationships with various authors on Elance and will be sure that any new workers are contracted through the Elance work boards.

Make Freelancing PayHello, my name is Daisy McCarty  I’m a long time Elancer and am very excited about the potential for this startup competition. I met Jo when she read and reviewed my recently published eBook “Make Freelancing REALLY Pay”. Her insights into the freelance business demonstrate her business acumen and her background in education makes her highly qualified to receive support through this startup contest.

Jo’s idea for promoting Intercultural Understanding through the Creative Arts is quite compelling and creative. I do believe that collaborative teaching/learning is the wave of the future, and ideas like this are the seeds from which this new educational system can grow. Jo has a demonstrated track record for networking and collaborating with other freelancers and I believe she will put those Elance credits to very good use. I’m also excited that she could have a shot at presenting this worthwhile project to venture capitalists! She has my wholehearted support, and I encourage you to give deep consideration to her entry.   Sincerely,  Daisy McCarty

000249615Hiya, I’m Jo Harrington. I first met Jo Murphy on Suite101 and quickly became impressed by her creative talent. Her enthusiasm is highly infectious. I have found myself attracted into projects, with her at the helm, which ordinarily would have passed me by, simply because she makes them appear so attractive. Her passion meets any challenge undaunted, and she’s a lovely person too.  I support Jo’s proposal for using creative means to promote Intercultural Understanding, as I know she is the perfect person for the job. She can move mountains when she tries!  Author of A Writer’s Guide to Wizzley.

Kate FarrantKate Farrant, I support this competition proposal to promote Intercultural Understanding through the Creative Arts.  I originally met Jo when she was teaching in Toowoomba I was her student and found Jo most helpful in my quest to complete resolved work.   We met again  on Face Book where she noticed my work and wrote an article about my jewelry and how to write jewelry descriptions.  Jo taught us exhibition skills and I know she always follows through on projects.  I can see huge potential for the project and can see that Jo is able to network with other artists in such a way as to bring the project to fruition.  I know that Jo is passionate about providing work opportunities for artists especially students.  I think the project sounds like fun and value all cultures and their representation through the creative arts.   I support Jo wholeheartedly.

Hi, my name is Russell Hughes. I have my own company and am in the process of launching an internet art business called The Modern Art Club  I have used elance to connect with skilled freelancers in writing and design. I have worked with Jo via elance for several months – her writing on the creative arts is very well researched, brings out the essence of a subject, and challenges the reader to think and engage with the subject matter.

I know Jo’s interests cover the use of creative arts in a number of ways which can make a real difference to peoples’ lives, and she is passionate about the combination of art, technology, communication and teaching skills to promote cultural understanding and learning. I support Jo’s competition proposal to promote Intercultural Understanding through Phonetics enhanced and made enjoyable through the Creative Arts. There are not that many truly big ideas, this one is, and the elance community can make it happen.
Good luck!  Russell Hughes
